Therapeutic Massage

Welcome to Sanctuary Massage

I offer a wide range of techniques and modalities to heal, rejuvenate, and restore functional and structural harmony for radiant health! Our health is so important to living a balanced and vibrant life for all stages of our lives. It is no easy task to meet all the challenges of our fast paced lives but massage can be a true preventative therapy that nourishes our body and mind while bringing balance and peace.  I invite you to experience the deeply healing results that come through therapeutic massage.  More and more people are including massage as part of their preventive health care plan along with nutrition, yoga or other forms of exercise and meditation.

In todays world, “modern life” can cause all sorts of imbalances that further create injury. Things like our posture: looking at screens for hours at a time, driving, sitting, spending hours indoors without a connection to the healing negative ions of the earth, and the ubiquitous stress that further takes us into all sorts of addictions. Poor nutrition from processed foods and allopathic medicine, an over-reliance on pharmaceuticals, repetitive motions or lack of movement all have an affect on our bodies/minds. Consistent and regular bodywork can benefit everyone. From improving circulation and enhancing immunity to relief from stress, chronic pain, injury, depression and anxiety, therapeutic massage  has been well documented as a treatment with positive and lasting results. This ancient practice also has proven results for a full range of medical conditions, including asthma, psycho-emotional distress from chronic IBS (inflammatory bowel disease), allergies, arthritis, bronchitis, carpel tunnel, repetitive motion injuries, circulatory problems, insomnia, piriformis syndrome, thoracic outlet syndrome, sciatica, tension headaches, and sports injuries.  My intention is always to listen to what you need in the massage session and to sensitively combine and execute the most effective treatment for your individual needs.

“Cynde had the magic touch! I’ve had chronic shoulder pain that stretching, acupuncture, exercise and rest were not helping. I went to Cynde just for a relaxing massage but it was so much more than that. She understood my body’s structural challenges and immediately found all my problem areas. I walked out of her massage studio (which is beautiful, by the way) feeling freer, empowered and miraculously pain-free! I’ll definitely be back.” J.S.

Types of Massage Offered

Advanced Myofascial Release: Myo means muscle and Fascia is the strong connective tissue that surrounds every muscle, bone, nerve, blood vessel and organ. Fascia functions to suspend, protect and separate all our organs and tissues and is the structural tissue that gives our bodies its shape and posture. Repetitive movements, injuries, emotional and hormonal disruptions and stress all can contribute to fascial restrictions that can cause pain, and neuromuscular patterns that lead to dysfunction. To change our posture and these dysfunctional muscular patterns we need to work with the fascia and muscles. Myofascial Release is a highly effective technique to bring the body back into harmony, relieve pain and restore functional and structural balance in the body.

Deep Tissue: Is a focused massage that slowly penetrates the deeper layers of muscle to release chronic and acute neuromuscular tension and pain.

Swedish Massage: This style of massage uses a variety of strokes to stimulate circulation, bring deep relaxation and relieve chronic muscle tension and stress. Swedish can be combined with other techniques to provide a more individualized and specific session.

Trigger Point Release: Trigger points are hypersensitive areas which keep a portion of the muscle or surrounding soft tissue contracted. Each muscle has a specific pattern of referral pain – meaning it produces pain where it is and in another area of the body. Trigger points can cause pain, tingling, burning, weakness and restricted motion. They are often caused by trauma such as accidents, sports, occupation or disease. This myofascial pain can mimic the pain of many other medical conditions including chest pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, sciatica, migraine headaches and more. The therapist can inactivate trigger points by using compression, stretching and moist heat.

Thai Massage: An ancient massage therapy closely linked to yoga positions that is experienced fully clothed on a comfortable mat on the floor with no oils. The therapist uses compression/ release, traction, active and passive stretching to work deep tension from muscles and fascia. Thai works with the meridian system (sen lines in Thai) to remove stagnation in the tissues, increasing circulation, improving flexibility and range of motion for the joints and bringing about a deep blissful peace and relaxation.

Craniosacral Therapy: Craniosacral Therapy is a holistic healing practice that uses very light touch to balance the cranial sacral system which includes the bones, nerves, fluids and connective tissues of the cranium and spinal area. It focuses primarily on the concept of “primary respiration” and regulating the flow of cerebrospinal fluid by using therapeutic touch to manipulate the synarthrodial joints of the cranium. It is used often to treat hyperactivity, depression, headaches, TMJ, and other Central Nervous System disorders.

Reflexology: Reflexology, also known as zone therapy, is an alternative medical practice involving the application of pressure to specific points on the feet and hands. This is done using thumb, finger, and hand massage techniques without the use of oil or lotion.

Abhyanga: There is no greater expression of self-love than lovingly anointing ourselves from head to toe with warm oil—this practice is called Abhyanga. The Sanskrit word Sneha can be translated as both “oil” and “love.” It is believed that the effects of Abhyanga are similar to those received when one is saturated with love. Like the experience of being loved, Abhyanga can give a deep feeling of stability and warmth. Some of the wonderful benefits of Abhyanga massage:

* nourishes the entire body and decreases the effects of aging

* lubricates joints

* increases circulation

* moves lymph aiding in detoxification

* calms nerves

* benefits sleep

* enhances vision

* pacifies Vata and Pitta

* stimulates Kapha doshas
